"We all have a destiny." "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get."  Liaoteng believes the truth is somewhere in between, and has enjoyed opening many boxes of chocolates and making increasing number of friends.  This page only shows some of his friends from Tsinghua Bio2, the class of 34 undergraduate students whose average admission score ranked No. 1 in 1992 among all undergraduate departments in Tsinghua, which was extraordinary given Tsinghua regularly commands the highest average admission score among all universities in China.  Over half of Liaoteng's classmates ranked among the top 10 scorers of their respective provinces.  Liaoteng always views it as an honor and privilege to spend his college life around some of the smartest people in his generation.

In summer 1997, Liaoteng came to the United States after receiving his B.S. in Biological Sciences and Biotechnology from Tsinghua University.  Most of his friends before college are in China, and most of his friends in college are in the United States.  About 80% of his classmates in Bio2, came to the United States, and are pursuing diverse career paths such as professors at Stanford and Berkeley, business managers for Fortune 500 companies, computer scientists, electrical engineers, biomedical scientists, and patent attorneys.

After conducting group labor for the Summer Palace, we were given a free and private tour (ca. 1997).

Jiangtao, the one in light blue jersey, was the best soccer player in our class.

We went to the Little Dragon Gate forest farm in the name of ecology practice and climbed the DongLing Mountain (elevation ca. 7,500 ft).

We laid the ground for the extension of the Tsinghua East Playground.  No such reward as free admission, but we were quite content then.

17 years ago, in front of the auditorium and the old departmental building in Tsinghua.

Bio2 happened to be the last Tsinghua biology class to have a 5-year curriculum.  We were only about 21 then.

Those of us in the midwest got together in 2001 in Chicago's Chinatown.

My wife and I visited California in 2002, meeting Zhang Fang and Hongwei in San Francisco's Chinatown.

My wife and I visited Billy and Miao in 2003 in St. Louis.

Sather Gate, with the Berkeley/Yale/Stanford faculty from Bio2.  Hongwei has since followed Yigong's path and returned to Tsinghua.
